IS IT SAFE?
Botox has been used therapeutically for more than 20 years to treat a variety of medical conditions.  It is approved in more than 75 countries.  In 2002, BOTOX Cosmetic - was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people ages 18 to 65.

WHAT IS BOTOX COSMETIC AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
BOTOX Cosmetic is a prescription product that is injected into muscles to give a face a more relaxed, smoother appearance.  By blocking the muscle pulls, it reduces muscle activity that causes lines to form between the brows. 

WHAT CAUSES FROWN LINES?
The 11's - those vertical lines that appear between your brows - result from muscle contractions.  When you concentrate, squint, or frown, the muscles between the brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold.  After years of frequent contraction, wrinkles can linger even after the muscles are at rest. 

WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO MAKE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS?
Absolutely.  Botox will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you've "had work done."

HOW QUICKLY WILL I SEE A DIFFERENCE?
Within 24-48 hours you may notice a softening in the appearance of your frown lines between your brows.  This may continue to improve for up to a month.

HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT MY RESULTS TO LAST?
Visible results have been shown to last up to 4 months on average.  Your own results may vary.

IS TREATMENT WITH BOTOX COSMETIC PAINFUL?
No.  Discomfort is usually minimal and brief.  Prior to injecting, we use a cold pack both BEFORE and AFTER and our patients remark how easy the procedure was.  We do not believe in numbing creams all over the face as it is messy and does not provide the comfort that our patients expect when having it done at our office. 

WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME AFTER THE TREATMENT?
None.  In using our technique, most patients can go back to work, out to dinner or lunch or whatever they had planned with very slight if at all noticeable treatment signs.  We do ask that our patients refrain from strenuous workout, facial, rubbing of the face, or going out in the sun for 24 hrs following the procedure to assure the best results.

WHO SHOULD BE CAREFUL USING BOTOX COSMETIC?
Patients who have any disease that affects their muscles and nerves such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis - ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease- myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome.
